Meeting Minutes – 10/09/07

In Attendance: Nora Hightower, SaraKatherine Goldsmith, Leslie Bigos, Vince Caruso, Iris Winstanley, Max Belle, Christine Hillier, Kris Loukusa

Band Director Update

Grant Application - Vince Caruso currently working on a PTSA grant which is due the 16th.
Instrument Purchases - a new French horn has arrived. Vince awaiting the arrival of a new snare set within the next few weeks.
Vince Caruso would like to have some students switch instrument, i.e., bassoon and oboe.
All State Auditions - Vince Caruso has started recording All State auditions. He will finish in the upcoming week. Auditions are now transmitted to the WMEA electronically.
Flute Choir - a 1-day-a-week flute choir/club has begun with a coach from UW. This gives flute players an opportunity to develop themselves. The club meets on Wednesdays in the band room. More student participation is required to continue this club.
Concert band - will be starting their concert music within the week.
Wind Ensemble - is preparing for their October 24th concert.

Treasurer's Report

Not a lot of activity in the account this month. Noted were:

Monies collected for uniform purchases and the purchase of additional uniforms.
Check for French horn written
Northshore Jazz festival entry fees paid.

Fund Raising

Wreath sale was launched.

Documents and calendar are on the band web-site.
Incentives. SaraKatherine shared incentives for kids who make sales. Mills Music, Red Robin, etc. are vendors who have donated prizes. A $50 Bellevue Square gift certificate and a $35 Mills Music certificate will be offered to the top two sellers.
Delivery of Holiday Greenery will be on Wednesday, November 28^th. Students to pick-up greenery at 12:45pm (after school). Parent volunteers are needed from 11:30am to 1:30pm .

Seat Cushions - SaraKatherine made $160 in cushion sales at the October 5th football game. We have many more seat cushions available for sale at BHS home football games. SaraKatherine volunteered to do sales at the homecoming game.

Homecoming

Discussed arrangements for homecoming.

Nora will check with the committee that was formed regarding responsibilities for 4pm pizza feed, decorating, etc.
Yearbook picture for band students will be done at 4:45pm in the Gym prior to loading buses for the homecoming parade.
Water and snacks will still be required for 3rd quarter.

Chinook

Liaison - Kris Loukusa was introduced as liaison with Chinook Middle School. She will be involved in connecting the two schools.
Band Night - discussed BHS parents greeting the Chinook parents when Chinook comes to play at the October 25th football game.
Welcome Letter - BHS Boosters to send a letter to Chinook parents informing them of BHS activities, the web-site and how to be involved.

Football

Snacks & Water - Vince Caruso needs parent help in distributing snacks and water 3rd quarter. Any band parents attending the football game is welcome to come on down to the band area and lend a hand.
Leslie Bigos to procure snacks for the October 25th game.
Nora Hightower to check with Homecoming committee for snacks at the homecoming game.

Bellevue Jazz Festival

T-shirts - need a t-shirt coordinator who will handle ordering and t-shirt distribution.
Graphic - festival logo to be designed by Vincent Bigos.
Registration - need a volunteer to shadow Steve & Kay Kopp at the registration desk.
Sponsorships - launch of sponsorships will happen at the December concert.

October 24th Concert

Greeters are needed.
