Meeting Minutes – 9/ 18/07

Band Director Update

Football
- Since concession stands are crowded and some students are coming back to the band area late after 3rd quarter, the Boosters to provide bottled water and a snack for the students 3^rd quarter. SaraKatherine Goldsmith signed up for October 5^th; Leslie Bigos signed up for October 26^th.
- Vince Caruso has had to confiscate cell phones and iPods at football games. Students are not to use electronic devices during games/performances.
- Chinook students will play with BHS band at the Oct. 26^th football game.
Jazz Band 1 is playing the tune commissioned by last year’s graduating seniors, Big Red.
Instrument purchases – with Booster/fundraising, Mr. Caruso was able to purchase 1 oboe ($2700), 1 bassoon ($3709), 1 French horn ($3000) and one marching snare/harness ($715). The snare drum was a critical need due to the number of percussion students.
Band program has grown; Concert band is huge with approximately 61 students.

Budget

The Booster budget was discussed. The school has hired a staff accountant which may help in ASB fund accounting. The preliminary budget was examined.

Fund Raising

Wreath sale to launch on October 6^th
Discussed incentives for student participation.
Vince Caruso will apply for PTSA grant ($1000) to fund guest artists/clinics; Nora Hightower to draft application.
SaraKatherine and Peggy will sell seat cushions at the October 5th game.

Homecoming

Discussed arrangements for homecoming.

Debbie Buck will coordinate decorations with help from Sally Lawrence and Peggy Johnson.
Boosters will provide a pizza feed before the parade. Pizzas will be served along with fruit and water/soda. The cafeteria will be used to serve pizza.
Volunteers are needed to help with Homecoming events.
