Director's Report - Vince Caruso
- Approximately 115 band students this year
- Jazz Band tryouts are complete
- Instead of a Jazz 2 Band, there will be a "Jazz Club" which is scheduled to meet weekly. It will meet after tutorial from 3-4 and the band will probably attend one festival.
- Vince worked with ASB to insure equity in ASB funding for the band program.
- The "Building Budget" was cut from $5,000 to $2,500 this school year. To make up the loss, he ordered less music and reduced instrument repairs to $1600.
- Vince is trying to schedule Chinook Jazz night in the Bellevue High PAC this year.
- Action Item: Vince to come up with his "wish list" of instruments and other band items needed. We need this list for fundraising.
Treasurer's Report
- In the absence of the treasurer, we briefly looked at the proposed 2009-10. Vince Caruso mentioned that the CWU Wind Ensemble festival entry fee has gone up to $350 and he anticipates the Jazz festival fee to go up this year as well.
- The Instrument Replacements item on the budget -- $7000 for timpani -- will hold off until the new PAC is built.
Booster Business
- Hot Dog Feed recap -- we purchased too many hotdogs. Action Item for next meeting: Discuss if this event was viable and if we want to continue it. How could we have gotten better parent participation?
- Football games - Mr. Caruso needs sufficient snacks and water for all band members. Water was short this past game. Leslie Bigos placed Costco order for water & Kudos bars which will be delivered to the school and should suffice for remaining home football games and for Chinook Band Members.
- Chinook Band Night -- We will need greeters and direction-givers for Chinook parents. Will ask Pauline Zealey for help with volunteers.
- Homecoming -- Carol Lawrence suggested that we could forgo decorating the band room for Homecoming. Vince Caruso concurred. Kirsti Sheeran, who is coordinating the pizza feed and homecoming volunteers agreed.
- Band Representation in Yearbook -- It was discussed that band needs better representation in the Yearbook. We will supply the yearbook with photos. Carol Lawrence suggested we purchase a 2-page ad spread for band pictures. Carol Lawrence to check with Mr. Lander, yearbook advisor, on due-dates, etc.
- Wreath Fundraiser -- Kick-off of fundraiser will be October 6th. There will be an order turn-in day two weeks later and then for the next four weeks. Erin Fleck, a band parent, has graciously donated 125 wreaths which will supplement the Deer Run Greenery order.
- Fundraising -- Discussed sending a direct mail to all band parents requesting a "suggested donation." The wish list of instruments will help this effort.
Action Items:
- Please let me know before the next meeting of anything you would like to add to the agenda.
- Will it suffice to send minutes out by e-mail or do we want to post the minutes on the web-site?
