Honors Music: Orchestra
Length/Credit: 1 year- 1 credit (SHS only- 2 credits)
Prerequisite: Audition. Successful completion of 1 year of high school performance class (

Location:
While participating in a major performing ensemble, students will extend their understanding of music through involvement in a series of activities. To reach Honors status, students will prepare and record an audition tape using the All-State, All-Northwest repertoire for the current year. The students will rehearse with small ensembles in or out of class independent of teacher direction, and then perform the piece at the Region Solo & Ensemble Festival or teacher-approved alternative event. Honors Music students will successfully complete district competency music theory, ear training, and music history assessments, to the standard determined by the district. Completion of Honors Music provides a well-grounded foundation for college level study of music and/or a lifetime of participation in community ensembles.
Students and parents will receive a letter to read and sign before enrolling in the course. Once students are enrolled in the program, they must complete the year.
