Parent Volunteer Positions

In order to have a successful year, Mr. Caruso and the band students need parent support throughout the year!  The Bellevue High Band Boosters are the parent group that supports the band program by volunteering to help with events, assisting with fund raising, and just pitching in when Mr. Caruso needs help.   We hope every family will consider supporting their band student by stepping up and volunteering for one or more jobs during the year.

The volunteer positions are listed below and include one-time commitments and also longer term positions.  You can choose an area of interest and time availability.  However, volunteering for at least one job will help support the Band and your student tremendously!  If you're interested in volunteerng in any of the following areas, let someone on the Booster Board know.

Booster Board Positions:

Booster Board positions include:

  • President and co-president - coordinates band booster meetings, sets the agenda and helps the band program and Booster Board.
  • Secretary - maintains the web-site, writes letters and correspondence and provides booster meeting minutes.
  • Uniforms - coordinates the ordering and distribution of band uniforms.
  • Fundraising - coordinates fundraising efforts including the annual wreath sale.
  • Volunteer coordinator - drafts and assigns volunteers for band events, concerts and the Bellevue Jazz Festival.
  • Treasurer - keeps the budget, writes checks for instruments, clinicians, equipment, buses, etc. and deposits donations and fundraising monies.

Homecoming:

The band involvement in Homecoming is fairly significant. We need several parent volunteers to help with decorations and helping order and serve food to the students before the parade. One or more volunteers are needed to:

  • Decorate the band room for Homecoming. Usually posters, banners, and balloons that fit the theme are created.
  • Coordinate the order of pizza, drinks, etc. for the band to eat before the parade.
  • Help serve and clean up after the pizza feed.
  • Arrange picture taking for the BHS Yearbook, The Beacon.

Annual Holiday Greenery Sale (October/November)

Band members sell holiday wreaths to raise funds for the band program. This includes purchasing new instruments, guest performances and workshops, etc.  Some years, monies raised from wreath sales sponsor students for a educational trip to Disneyland.

Grant Writing:

There may be grant money for band instruments that might be available, but we need to have someone assist the band director in writing Grant applications to the PTSA and Bellevue Schools Foundation.

Football Pep Band Support:

Coordinate providing snacks & water to the band at home football games. One parent volunteer needs to be assigned to every game. The Booster Organization provides reimbursement.

Greeters at Concerts:

One or two parents are needed to greet the guests at the BHS Band Concerts.  These greeters would arrive one-half hour early and pass out programs or other band parent materials.

PR Position:

This person would notify local publications of our successes!  When we have a winning band or students who have made state band or won a competition, this person will let our community know!

Bellevue Jazz Fesival

This festival is put on by the BHS band to raise funds to support the entire band program.  Profits from this event are used to purchase new instruments, music, etc. for the entire band program (not just the Jazz Band). You will be asked to participate in helping out with this fund raiser, but there are several areas that need volunteers: Sponsorship Drive, Programs, Ticket Sales, Travel/hotel arrangements for judges, Welcome table, Door monitors, and Parking lot attendants.
