Welcome to the website of the Bellevue High School Band program, home of the Wolverines! This site is intended to be a communication tool for band students and parents. Check back regularly throughout the year for information regarding the BHS bands. It is each student’s responsibility to be keep track of his/her commitments. Parents, anything you can do to keep your student organized and on time is appreciated! The 27th annual Bellevue Jazz Festival on May 1st and 2nd was another success! Thanks to all of the parents and students who are volunteered their time!! The money raised by this event pays for next year’s operating budget for the entire band program. Way to go!! The Concert Band members are working on several new pieces for the Awards Concert (June 2nd). Students must be practicing Nathan Hale Trilogy, As If On Wings, Ascend, and Coronation March. The mandatory combined rehearsal with percussionists will be during tutorial on Friday, May 29th. Our continued success depends upon each individual’s commitment to “own the part.” Concert Band members are responsible for providing beverages at the post-concert reception. Another important reminder: Concert band members will be doing auditions for next year’s wind ensemble in the very near future. Information and audition procedures have been covered in class. Please do not assume you will make the wind ensembleyou must prepare the audition materials. The Wind Ensemble is now working on several new pieces for the June 2nd Awards Concert: March from First Suite in Eb, Fugue on Yankee Doodle, Eiger, and Coronation March. Students, you must be practicing regularly! The mandatory combined rehearsal with percussionists will be during tutorial on Monday, June 1st. Our success depends upon each individual’s commitment to “own the part. Wind Ensemble members are responsible for providing snacks/munchies for the post-concert reception. The Jazz Band will be performing at the annual Chinook MS “Jazz Night” on May 21st Joining us as guest artists will be the Matt Jorgensen’s group. The concert begins at 7:30pm in the CMS main gym. The final jazz performance of the year will be at the annual Awards Concert on June 2nd. Organize your sectionals, practice your solo changes, and be listening to your reference recordings religiously! Students, I would like to encourage all of you to consider studying with a private teacher. As the size of band classes grows, individual attention diminishes and a private teacher can be a fantastic way for you to get the individual attention you need from a specialist on your instrument. If there were one thing I could “gift” to ever band member, it would be the time/ability/desire to study privately. This is a key component to successful band programs across the country. At the very least you all need to be doing your homework (aka PRACTICING!) on a regular basis.
